5'4" Somma Special Designs Semi-Finless
Shea Somma is a Central Coast shaper operating out of San Luis Obispo. He has worked with us on a couple of models, creating modified variations of hulls and twin fins that work exceptionally in less than perfect waves. This semi-finless disc shape is perfect for those who are curious about riding finless boards but don't want to mess with the difficulty of just starting out. With a wide outline and centered wide-point, beefy square tail, this board has plenty of surface area to squat. The bottom consists of a bellied entry that runs from the front third into a single concave that deepens through the tail. There are also two channels that run along the rails beginning just above midway down the board, that also deepen through the exit, creating two "bumps" in the square tail. The rails are thin but pretty round, making this a more forgiving finless-adjacent sled. There are also two small fins that give some extra bite, making turns and drawing specific lines much easier. This semi-finless is an excellent choice if you want to dip your toes in the finless world!

The Daydream Research Center curates a selection of boards that are best suited for intermediate or higher skill level. The design attributes of these boards can be difficult for those with less surfing experience to enjoy. For surfers who are just starting out, we highly recommend learning on surfboards that are designed for beginners and are happy to help point you in the right direction to find shops that have boards available for your needs. We want to create the best experience for our members and align them with boards that complement their skill level.
Day Pass Membership - This is a walk-in offer intended for folks that are not in the neighborhood who would like to have access to boards from the Research Center quiver that are not reserved for the day they visiting. Boards will need to be returned within 24 hours and Single Session.
Monthly Membership - Monthly Members of the Research Center are allowed up to a 3 day holding period for each board. Ongoing files will be kept to document the experimentation process, this can also be used for custom board ordering through the shapers we work with.
Extended Membership - Members have the same benefits as Monthly Members and are allowed holding periods of 7 days.
